Auschwitz Birkenau, Poland
Close to 1M people from trains here, between Spring'42 and May'44
This location is rarely visited..... but is where you should begin.
A rail car is stationed where close to 1M people were forcebly off loaded from trains between Spring'42 and May'44 and then by trucks transported to the camp. At this spot, 70-75% were immediately selected for the gas chambers. From May 1944 this curving rail spur lead directly into the Birkenau camp, gas chamber selections were then made there... Though mainly buried by grass etc, you can still walk it, passing through the yards of now local homes and then the camp entrance. The Auschwitz II - Birkenau camp from 1941.
Remains of Gas Chamber and Crematorium II, blow up by the SS Jan 20, 1945. Here are the steps down into the undressing hall, gas chamber at the end to the right, with the crematorium II. Standing here sends a cold shiver through you.... unimaginable horror awaited them.
