Make a call ahead to the Geological Society, Burlington House, Piccadilly and arrange to visit William Smith's 1815 Geological map of England, Wales, and southern Scotland. Published in 1815, it was the first national-scale geologic map, and the first geologic map in the world. IHe effectively established the modern science of Geology as we know of to-day.
